Dealing with Uncertainties and the Curse of Dimensionality in Closed-Loop Reservoir Management

 

Real-time reservoir management and optimization poses multiple challenges due to the limited information content in data, the nonlinearity of the multiple physics involved and error measurements arising at multiple scales. In this presentation we highlight some of the main avenues that has been explored in both the industry and academia to be able to reliably quantify uncertainty and cope with the large number of decision parameters involved in history matching, production optimization and closed-loop reservoir studies. The discussion will include the latest advances in reduced/surrogate modeling, parameterization methods and high performance computing.
